It may not often be seen as the best game in the world of gambling, but keno has loads of keen admirers. And why not? It’s a consistently thrilling lotto-esque game that’s a snap to play, readily available in lots of assorted styles, and one that will return mega-dollars for those who master its innumerable subtle rules. But let’s deal with the basic rules here.

When describing keno to amateurs, some gambling masters compare it to the lottery. This is at least nearly apt, in that each game is generally numerical. However, to take that comparison too far will be to downplay the endless unique characteristics that make keno so fun. Not like bingo, keno enthusiasts have the power to select the numbers for each and every card.

Keno cards have a grand total of eighty numbers, but the gambler is furnished with an extra level of personal responsibility by being able to decide on as many (or as few) numbers as he or she feels they need. And it doesn’t take a doctor of keno to come up with how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your desired numbers with a normalball point pen like you used when you were in grade 3.

After you’ve picked your numbers, carry your keno card back to the clerk at the keno stand. The keno pit manager will record those numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not drop this (potentially) expensive piece of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers you and wants help out, without a winning slip in hand, you will be given exactly $.00 for your actions.

Ok, there you have strategy #1: always be sure to keep your keno receipt. Let’s advance to something a bit more complex, ok?

Once you’ve marked your numbers, get into a nice keno booth and see the action unfold on the screen. That is where the winning numbers are shown for all to see. If you selected winning numbers, mark your card appropriately. Be sure not to dally, or sit there praising yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You need to get back to the keno booth to collect your winnings, and then a new round of keno will likely start within a few minutes.

Strategy #2: always go back to the keno booth on time!

Since you can’t trust yourself to make that 5 minute deadline each time, you always have the option of buying a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your picked numbers on anywhere from 2 to 20 tickets. When the maximum amount of rounds (fitting the number of tickets) is played, you may then get off your lazy butt and go redeem your winnings.

Another alternative is recognized as a "stray and play" keno slip, which usually allows you make number choices for 30 keno rounds or more. Hell, you can take all the time in the world and not have to worry about getting back in time to redeem your winnings. Most "stray and play" slips are good for up to a whole year after it’s bought!

So now you know several necessary strategies for winning keno. If you are an adept player, they may seem to be very obvious. Still, it won’t hurt to brush up on the basics, and if you are a novice player, every tiny bit of advice will help make your keno playing time more agreeable.
