It may not commonly be seen as the sexiest game in the field of wagering, but keno has millions and millions of zealous admirers. And why not? It’s a regularly entertaining lotto-esque game that’s easy to learn, readily available in several different variations, and one that may return millions for those who learn its uncounted subtle nuances. But let’s start with the basic rules here.
When defining keno to novices, some gaming connoisseurs compare it to bingo. This is at least nearly apt, in that each game is fundamentally numerical. However, to carry that comparison too far can be to undervalue the countless unique characteristics that make keno so exciting. Not like bingo, keno gamblers have the power to choose the numbers for every card.
Keno cards have a total of 80 numbers, but the player is accord an extra degree of personal responsibility by being able to determine as many (or as few) numbers as she thinks is appropriate. And it doesn’t take a super genius to figure out how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your picked numbers with a normalpen like you had when you were in grade 3.
After you’ve picked your numbers, take your keno card back to the person at the keno stand. The clerk will record your numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not misplace this (potentially) expensive piece of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your pretty face and would like to help out, without a winning slip with you, you will get precisely $.00 for your actions.
Now there you have strategy #1: always make sure to keep your keno ticket. Let us go on to something a bit more advanced, yes?
After you’ve picked your numbers, settle into a nice keno booth and watch the action unfold on the screen. This is where the winning numbers appear for us. If you checked winning numbers, mark your card appropriately. Sake care not to take your time, or sit there congratulating yourself for too great a length of time. You must get up to the keno stand to collect your winnings, as a new drawing will surely start within 5 minutes.
Strategy number 2: always get back to the keno stand on time!
Assuming you can’t trust yourself to meet that 5 minute deadline each time, you always retain the option of purchasing a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your chosen numbers on anywhere from two to 20 cards. When the maximum amount of games (the same as the number of tickets) is played out, you can then get off your numb bum and go collect your winnings.
Yet another alternative is recognized as a "stray and play" keno card, which commonly lets you make number picks for 30 games or more. Golly, you can take vacation to Greece and not have to get uptight about getting back in time to redeem your winnings. Most "stray and play" slips are good for up to a whole year after purchase!
And now you know a number of indispensable strategies for winning keno. If you are a good gambler, they might seem stupidly obvious. But it does not hurt to bone up on the basic techniques, and if you are a newbie user, every tiny bit of direction will help make your keno wagering more exciting.
