It won’t often be thought of as the most lucrative game in the universe of wagering, but keno has millions of steadfast admirers. As well it should! It’s a consistently entertaining lotto-type game that’s simple to master, abundantly available in lots of different variations, and one that may pay out millions for players who master its many subtle nuances. But let’s begin with the basic rules here.

When describing keno to beginners, some gaming connoisseurs compare it to bingo. This is at least partly correct, in that each game is basically numerical. However, to carry that comparison too far might be to miscalculate the countless unique aspect that make keno so compelling. Unlike bingo, keno users have the power to pick the numbers for every card.

Keno cards have a total of eighty numbers, but the user is granted an increased level of personal responsibility by being able to select as many (or as few) numbers as he desires. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to determine how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your picked numbers with a every day oldball point pen like you used when you were in grade 3.

Once you have picked your numbers, take your game card back to the clerk at the keno stand. The clerk will record those numbers and then give you a receipt. Do not misplace this (potentially) valuable piece of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your pretty face and would like to help out, without a winning receipt on you, you will collect exactly $.00 for your winning card.

And there you have strategy #1: always be sure to keep your keno slip. Let’s get on to something a little more advanced, what do you think?

Now that you’ve marked your numbers, settle into a comfy keno booth and watch the action happen on a big video monitor. That’s where the winning numbers are shown in lights. If you selected winning numbers, mark your card accordingly. Be sure not to dally, or sit there congratulating yourself for too great a length of time. You are required to get back to the keno stand to get your winnings, since a new round of keno will almost certainly get going within 5 minutes.

Strategy number 2: always make sure to get back to the keno booth on time!

Since you don’t trust yourself to meet that five-minute deadline each and every time, you always retain the option of using a "multi-race" ticket. These include the same set of your picked numbers on anywhere from 2 to twenty tickets. When the max number of games (matching the number of tickets) is played out, you will then be able to get off your lazy bum and go get your winnings.

Yet another option is referred to as a "stray and play" keno card, which usually lets you make number picks for thirty keno rounds or more. Golly, you can take a Swedish massage and not have to fret about getting back in time to get your numbers. Most "stray and play" cards are good for up to a whole year after you purchase it!

And now you have learned a handful of indispensable schemes for winning keno. If you are an experienced player, they may seem very obvious. But it does not hurt to bone up on the basics, and if you are a novice player, every tiny bit of information will help make your keno betting more enjoyable.
