Keno was introduced in two hundred BC by the Chinese military leader, Cheung Leung who used keno as a way to finance his failing army. The city of Cheung was waging a war, and after a bit of war time appeared to be looking at a country wide shortage of food with the drastic decrease in supplies. Cheung Leung needed to develop a rapid response for the financial calamity and to create income for his forces. He thusly developed the game we know today as keno and it was a fantastic success.
Keno was known as the White Pigeon Game, due to the fact that the winning numbers were broadcast by pigeons from larger municipalities to the smaller towns. The lottery ‘Keno’ was imported to the United States in the 1800s by Chinese immigrants who migrated to the US for jobs. In those times, Keno was played with one hundred and twenty numbers.
Today, Keno is most often bet on with just 80 numbers in just about all of American land based casinos along with internet casinos. Keno is largely loved today because of the laid back nature of playing the game and the basic fact that there are no expertise needed to enjoy Keno. Regardless of the fact that the odds of succeeding are terrible, there is constantly the hope that you could hit quite big with little gambling investment.
Keno is enjoyed with eighty numbers and twenty numbers are selected each round. Gamblers of Keno can pick from 2 to ten numbers and bet on them, whatever amount they are able to. The payout of Keno is dependent on the wagers made and the roll out of matching numbers.
Keno grew in popularity in the US near the end of the 1800’s when the Chinese letters were changed with more familiar, US numbers. Lottos were not covered under the laws of gaming in Nevada State in 1931. The casinos changed the name of the ‘Chinese lotto’ to ‘horse race keno’ employing the idea that the numbers are horses and you want your horses to place. When a law passed that levied a tax on off track gambling, Nevada casinos quickly changed the name to ‘Keno’.
